[Okay, even Apollo's feeling somewhat hopeful after that pep talk. He looks cautiously optimistic, especially because he isn't detecting any lies from her.]
Really? I expected I would have to put work into the training, of course, but how fast I pick up the training is another thing altogether. [He pauses, looking at her.] When you say "we" do you mean you plan on teaching me?
[Apollo looks away, struggling with something internally, from the way he's tensed up.]
It'd...be helpful if you could. [Why is it so hard to get the words out? He knows he doesn't stand a chance if he doesn't ask, not with the way the attacks happen so frequently here.] I don't want to be a liability for anyone, especially the people I know from home.
[Some tension seems to fade from his jawline and he dips his head toward her gratefully.] Thanks. If there's anything I can do for you later, I'd like to repay the favor.
[Seemingly having enough of the awkward floundering for words, Apollo straightens his shoulders.]
How long have you been doing this, anyway? You look around Trucy's age...
[She's never had someone offer something like that to her before!!
But oh right.]
Ummm... a couple of years? I'm training to be a Huntress, so this is kind of what we do! I'm...a little younger than my classmates but that's okay! I can still do it!
Having that kind of confidence in your abilities is a good sign. You'll be fine.
[And so will I, he tells himself. He offers her a slight smile.]
In any case, it looks like I have to make a choice here. [Apollo eyes the weapons on display dubiously.] Choose something that appeals to me...is what you said, right?
[She looks a little sheepish at "expert", shuffling in place a little.]
I just really like weapons, I think. So I went a little overboard with Crescent Rose, and it's a little much but I love her the way she is and--and enough about me let's find you a weapon!
You mean the weapons from your world aren't all like Crescent Rose? [It's a nice name, for a scythe, Apollo decides. He's also somewhat relieved that apparently the scythe is an exception.
He eyes the various swords on display.]>
Something like a sword might work. I handled one when I fought in ViViD before. [Not to mention the swords would be easier to carry around, unlike something of the scythe's size and caliber.]
Well, everyone's weapons are pretty cool, they're just not...usually giant scythes, no. [If that's what you mean, Apollo. She's pretty aware that the scythe thing is...pretty intense.] Weapons are a really important part of things back home, though! Everyone's weapons are really impressive.
[Ruby loves all of them--but oh right, swords.]
Swords are good. Very classic, can't go wrong with a sword. Maybe... not a two-handed sword though. [I mean. You're kind of scrawny.]
Something like...an arming sword?
[She'll shuffle over towards one, pointing it out.]
It depends on what sword you're talking about! I mean, there are swords that are only sharp on one edge, or two-handed swords that are way bigger, or curved swords, or lots of different kinds of swords!
[He gravitates toward the one that Ruby pointed out earlier and finds a near duplicate of it, except that it's sheathed. Carefully, Apollo lifts it from its display, drawing it partially to get a look at the blade inside.]
I'll go with this one. [Trying not to sound as uncertain as he feels! Sword has been added to Apollo's inventory...or rather, it will be once he makes the purchase.]
Whenever you want! It'll be pretty basic stuff at first, sooo... just a lot of stuff you have to practice. When you've got that down, we can move on to things like monster hunting.
[It'll be fun!!]
I work as a mechanic but otherwise I'm usually pretty free since--you know, Cerealia. We're all pretty free. Schedule...wise...... Yeah.

[She fails to see how this is a big deal.]
Just pick something you like, and I'm sure you can get good at it! That's what I did!
no subject
Er. [Is he wilting? He's definitely wilting.] Maybe I should have specified that I'm not athletic as well as a beginner.
no subject
[she's NOT LETTING UP.]
Don't worry! I was total garbage when I started, but I worked really hard and now I'm really good!
no subject
Really? I expected I would have to put work into the training, of course, but how fast I pick up the training is another thing altogether. [He pauses, looking at her.] When you say "we" do you mean you plan on teaching me?
no subject
[Ruby just shrugs a little, smiling.]
I'm not as good as my uncle Qrow, but I'm pretty good now still, if I do say so myself! ... Which is a thing I just did... because I'm talking...
no subject
It'd...be helpful if you could. [Why is it so hard to get the words out? He knows he doesn't stand a chance if he doesn't ask, not with the way the attacks happen so frequently here.] I don't want to be a liability for anyone, especially the people I know from home.

Okay.
[That's that.]
Then I'll teach you whatever I can! I don't know if I'll be a very good teacher, but... you never know 'til you try, right?
no subject
[Seemingly having enough of the awkward floundering for words, Apollo straightens his shoulders.]

[His reassurance is appreciated, at least; sometimes Ruby still isn't all too Sure about how she's performing, what with her rocky start.
But for now-- weapons.]
You should pick one you like and think is cool! That's why I picked my scythe.

[His bewildered expression is just asking for a demonstration. Seeing is believing, right?]

[She'll just pull out Crescent Rose and let it unfold to its full, massive, unnecessarily large size.
Yep.]
... Scythe.
no subject
That's... [Words are failing him here.] impressive? How do you manage to wield something that size?
no subject
[It's said so simply... but hey, she's used to this by now.]
Eheh... I'm glad you like her though. I made her myself, you know!
[She might be a little proud.]
no subject
I can't bring myself to be surprised anymore. Doesn't that make you a weapons expert?
[It would explain why she was staring at the same display.]
no subject
[She looks a little sheepish at "expert", shuffling in place a little.]
I just really like weapons, I think. So I went a little overboard with Crescent Rose, and it's a little much but I love her the way she is and--and enough about me let's find you a weapon!
[Because the rambling was getting terrible.]
Anything look good to you?

Classic. Classic sounds good. [Apollo carefully studies the sword she's pointed out, relieved that it isn't anything complicated.] What's the difference?
no subject
[Well....]
It depends on what sword you're talking about! I mean, there are swords that are only sharp on one edge, or two-handed swords that are way bigger, or curved swords, or lots of different kinds of swords!
... But this one's pretty basic, I think.
no subject
[He's kind of worried he'll just end up accidentally breaking things if he tries to pick something too fancy right now.]
We can revisit the...other types of swords once you think I've improved.
no subject
[Grab your knightly sword weapon, Apollo! Add it to your inventory and equip it!]
no subject
I'll go with this one. [Trying not to sound as uncertain as he feels! Sword has been added to Apollo's inventory...or rather, it will be once he makes the purchase.]
When do you think we should start the training?
